Come mealtime, Tel Aviv rises above and beyond the call of duty. Restaurants
range from Tex-Mex to Southeast Asian, from falafel and hummus to French
haute-cuisine. After a brain-melting day at the beach, however, fast food and fro-
zen yogurt may sound just as good. Luckily, there's plenty of time to decide-
most restaurants stay open until midnight or later, all week long.
For quick, cheap belly-fillers, head to the self-service eateries on Ben-Yehuda or
Allenby where stuff-your-own falafel goes for under NIS10. The trick for serious
penny-pinchers is to And a place selling falafel by the pita and keep refilling it until
your stomach hits the ground. The only better deal is the free food given out by the
Hare Krishnas in Gan Me'ir Park, just off King George St. The eateries, just a block
past the extortionist beachfront refreshment stands, are the best option for beach-
bums. For the late-night crowd, many of the bakeries along Allenby between Shuk
Ha-Carmel and Ha-Yarkon St. sell bagel toasts. (NIS5-8. Open 24hr.) Bakeries,
falafel stands, and fast-food joints line the Dizengoff Sq. area. Domino's delivers
