CLUBS
While many clubs cluster in the city center, larger clubs are on or near Ha-Oman
St. in Talpiyot, Jerusalem's southern industrial neighborhood, down Hebron Rd.
Take bus #21 from the city center until midnight; a taxi back should cost NIS15-20.
Talpiyot clubs are more expensive than those in the city center and most close in
the summer. They also open, close, and move more frequently than the city center
clubs; go to Ha-Oman 17 first and ask where to find other local hot spots.
Ha-Oman 17, 17 Ha-Oman St. in Talpiyot. The city's
largest and best dance club. Still relatively unknown among tourists (which is either
good or bad, depending on who you ask). Huge after-parties on major holidays. Two
huge indoor dance floors with large bar, populated mostly by scantily-clad Israeli univer-
sity students. Mostly techno and pop. Th 23+, F 19+. Cover NIS70. Open Th-F midnight-
dawn (or later). Closed July-Aug.
The Underground, 1 Yoel Salomon St. , is the dance club everyone hates
but goes to anyway, with a bar and batcave-like disco below. Sweaty, grinding dancers
shed layers of clothing as the hours go by. Drinks NIS15 and up; buy one get one free
during happy hour (daily 8-9pm). 18+. Cover Su-W after 10:30pm NIS20, Th-Sa NIS30;

Rd. In the heart of the bar scene in the Russian Compound. Large outer courtyard over-
flows with toe-stepping Israelis. Live salsa every M 9pm-3am (NIS25), crash course 8-
9pm (NIS35 includes both). Tu Reggae, Th house party, F-Su pub only with tables and
chairs crowding out the dance floor (no cover). 21+.
Q, 1 Yoel Salomon St. , next to and above the Underground. In past years,
this was Jerusalem's most decidedly gay club; nowadays, it's simply a smaller, more
upscale competitor to the Underground (although still gay-friendly). Crowded on Th
night2+. Cover NIS40-70, depending on the DJ. Open Th-Sa llpm-morning.
